Summer Staff Positions

It's the people who share the gospel through word and example that make camp what it is. We'd love to have you or someone you know join us on staff this summer.

Program Associate

Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have served as a counselor at least one year at PRBC or at another camp.
  • Has an active faith life, lives out being a disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • Desire and willingness to make the gospel of Jesus known to all people through their actions, words, and life.
  • Ability to teach and lead counselors.
  • Desire and willingness to show Christ’s love to all people.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff volunteers.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various situations and needs of the camp. Job responsibilities may change at the discretion of the Executive Director, according to the needs of the ministry of PRBC.

Responsible to:

  • Directly responsible to the Program Director
  • Generally responsible to the Executive Director

Responsibilities:

  • VBS team leader
  • Assist Program Director in training and leadership of summer staff.
  • Assist in the daily operations of the camp program.
  • Pray for, encourage, help evaluate, lead devotions and assist counseling staff daily.
  • Care for the spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being of campers.
  • Able to assist with campers in an emergency (fire, injury, etc.); observe loading/unloading of buses; and posses’ strength and endurance required to maintain the supervision of campers and counselors in any given area of PRBC property.
  • Encourage campers in the faith and faithfully teach Christ’s love, the scriptures, and acceptance.
  • Helps the Site Director maintain a clean and safe camp. There will be a designated time for this each week, typically on Fridays after the close of camp.

Possible Additional Responsibilities:

  • Aquatics Director, Challenge Course Manager, crafts leader, music director, drama leader, Paintball Manager.

Responsibilities of PRBC:

  • Train Program Assistant in summer curriculum, theology, safety procedures, behavioral management, activities to be led, and general camp operations.
  • Provide a stipend, as agreed upon in the summer staff agreement, as well as meals and housing.
  • Evaluate job performance and provide encouragement.
  • Supervise and assist Program Assistant in various activities and responsibilities.

Salary:
$450/week

Summer Camp Counselor

Qualifications:

  • Have faith in Jesus Christ
  • Desire and a willingness to make the gospel known to all people.
  • Ability to teach in accordance with a Lutheran understanding or a willingness to learn about the teachings.
  • Desire and willingness to show God’s love to all people.
  • Enjoy youth of all ages.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff and volunteers.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various situations and needs of the camp. Job responsibilities may change at the discretion of the Executive Director, according to the needs of the ministry of the camp.

Recommended:

  • Be at least 18 years or older
  • Applicants younger than 18 will be considered with additional supervision, training, and adjusted responsiblities.

Responsible to:

  • Directly responsible to Program Director
  • Generally responsible to the Executive Director
  • Other camp leadership as the need arises or as directed by the Executive Director or Associate Program Director (e.g. Site Director, Head Cook, Office Manager).

Responsibilities:

  • Care for the spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being of campers.
  • Encourage campers in their faith and faithfully teach them the scriptures.
  • Lead campers in typical camp-related activities activities.
  • Help manage the behavior of campers.
  • Maintain a clean and safe cabin area.
  • Able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, injury, etc.); observe loading/unloading of buses, and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers in any given area of the PRBC property.
  • Help the Site Director maintain a clean and safe camp. There will be designated time for this each week, typically on Fridays after the close of camp.

Sprouts Day Camp Counselor

  • Lead campers in typical camp related activities.

Camp Medic

Qualifications:

  • Be at least 21 years or older.
  • Have basic first aid, CPR, and AED certification or be EMT trained.
  • Have taken a medication course and certified to pass medication to campers/staff.

Responsible to:

  • Directly responsible to the Executive Director

Responsibilities:

  • Review of medical history forms prior to camper arrival
  • Screening of all campers as they arrive during registration.
  • Educate the camp staff about specific medical issues pertaining to the week’s campers.
  • Provide care for any accidents, illnesses, and special needs.
  • Treat minor cuts and bruises.
  • Keep accurate records.
  • Administer prescribed medication to campers.
  • Encourage campers in their faith by conveying a welcoming attitude and joyful spirit.
  • Understand that meeting the above responsibilities helps in preparing one’s meeting place with God.

Responsible of PRBC:

  • Ensure that the Medic has the appropriate training required to fulfill ACA standards.
  • Ensure that the Medic has proper knowledge of the First Aid Station, theology, safety procedures, activities to be led, and general camp operations all according to ACA standards and the Staff Policy Handbook.
  • Provide the first aid staff with appropriate supplies for a successful summer.
  • Provide a stipend, as agreed upon in the Summer Staff Agreement, as well as meals and housing.
  • Evaluate job performance and provide encouragement.
  • Supervise and assist the Medic in various activities and responsibilities.

Salary:
Based on experience/certifications (start at $450/week)

Head Cook

Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years or older
  • Ability to prepare nutritious, well-balanced, and good-tasting food.
  • Ability to work with a budget.
  • Has faith in Jesus.
  • Desire and willingness to make the gospel known to all people.
  • Desire and willingness to show Christ’s love to all people.
  • Lifestyle is consistent with that of a follower of Jesus.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff and volunteers.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various situations and needs of the camp. Job responsibilities may change at the discretion of the Executive Director, according to the needs of the ministry of the camp.

Responsible to:

  • Directly responsible to the Executive Director

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and oversee preparations of nutritious, balanced, kid-friendly meals, in accordance with the allowed budget.
  • Plan and oversee preparations of snacks as requested by Program Staff.
  • Order from food service companies and or grocery stores/bakery supplies needed for menu and running of the kitchen.
  • Schedule kitchen staff and instruct and train them in their duties.
  • Train the kitchen help in proper handling of food and cleaning of the food service areas.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary food service area.
  • Encourage campers and staff in their faith by conveying a welcoming attitude and joyful spirit.
  • To understand that meeting the above responsibilities helps in preparing one’s meeting place with God.

Responsibilities of PRBC:

  • Ensure that Head Cook has proper certifications or training in handling and holding of food, and sanitation of kitchen equipment and surfaces. Ensure that the Head Cook has proper knowledge of operations of kitchen equipment, safety procedures, and general camp operations all according to ACA standards.
  • Provide an hourly wage, as agreed upon in the Summer Staff Agreement, as well as meals and housing (if needed).
  • Evaluate job performance and provide encouragement.
  • Supervise and assist Head Cook in various activities and responsibilities.

Salary:
$550/week

Kitchen Assistant

Qualifications:

  • Be at least 16 years or older
  • Ability to help prepare nutritious, well-balanced, and good-tasting food.
  • Ability to work along-side the Head Cook and working within a budget.
  • Has faith in Jesus.
  • Desire and willingness to make the gospel known to all people.
  • Desire and willingness to show Christ’s love to all people.
  • Lifestyle is consistent with that of a follower of Jesus.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff and volunteers.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various situations and needs of the camp. Job responsibilities may change at the discretion of the Executive Director, according to the needs of the ministry of the camp.

Responsible to:

  • Directly responsible to the Head Cook and the Executive Director
  • Other camp leadership as the need arises or as directed by the Executive Director or Head Cook (eg. Program Staff, Site Director).

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the Head Cook to plan and oversee preparations of nutritious, balanced, kid-friendly meals, in accordance with the allowed budget.
  • Plan and oversee preparations of snacks as requested.
  • Assist with preparation and serving of meals and snacks.
  • Assist with the cleanup of meals and dishes.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary food service area.
  • Help keep order for Head Cook so she/he can order food from service companies and or grocery stores/bakery supplies needed for menu and running of the kitchen.
  • Assist with scheduling kitchen help and instruct and train them in their duties.
  • Assist and help train the kitchen staff in the proper handling of food and cleaning of the food service areas.
  • Encourage campers and staff in their faith by conveying a welcoming attitude and joyful spirit.
  • To understand that meeting the above responsibilities helps in preparing one’s meeting place with God.

Responsibilities of PRBC:

  • Ensure that First Assistant Cook has proper certifications or training in handling and holding of food, and sanitation of kitchen equipment and surfaces.
  • Ensure that the First Assistant Cook has proper knowledge of operations of kitchen equipment, safety procedures, and general camp operations all according to ACA standards.

  • Supervise and assist First Assistant in various activities and responsibilities.

Maintenance Assistant

Qualifications: 

  • Be at least 16 years or older.
  • Living faith in Jesus.
  • Desire and willingness to make the gospel known to all people.
  • Desire and willingness to show Christ’s love to all people.
  • Lifestyle is consistent with that of a follower of Jesus.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff and volunteers.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various situations and needs of the camp. Job responsibilities many change at the discretion of the Executive Director, according to the needs of the ministry of the camp. 

Responsible to: 

  • Directly responsible to the Site Director or Maintenance Crew Leader.
  • Generally responsible to the Executive Director.
  • Other camp leadership staff as needs arise.

Responsibilities: 

  • Help with cleaning bathrooms and public areas (Dining Hall, gym, chapel, etc.)
  • Help with ground care (lawn mowing, weed wiping, etc.)
  • Help with current building projects as needed.
  • Occasionally help lead all-camp games.
  • Able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, injury, etc.); possess strength and endurance to do moderate lifting, digging, loading, etc.
  • Encourage campers in their faith by conveying a welcoming attitude and joyful spirit.
  • Maintain a clean and safe living area.
  • To understand that meeting the above responsibilities helps in preparing one’s meeting place with God.

Responsibilities of PRBC: 

  • Train maintenance assistants in the safe handling and proper use of cleaning products, proper operation of power tools (as needed), theology, safety procedures, activities to be led, and general camp operations in accordance with the ACA standards.
  • Provide a stipend, as agreed upon in the Summer Staff Agreement, as well as meals and housing.
  • Evaluate job performance and provide encouragement.
  • Supervise and assist maintenance assistants in various activities and responsibilities.

Salary:
$360/week
